VIDA—Vigorous Instruction Delivers Achievement!

 

Objectives:

  1. 1. Promote a healthy, productive, proactive relationship between UT pre-service and AISD cooperating bilingual teachers

  2. 2. Integrate technology to promote the robust delivery of the Austin ISD curriculum (IPGs) as part of bilingual instruction

  3. 3. Promote student achievement and motivation through the use of technology as a tool for student-centered instructional models and as a tool to promote the use of academic English/Spanish

Partnership:

The University of Texas Department of Education and the Austin Independent School District partner to:


1. Provide 30 Apple G3 laptop computers (donated by UT to AISD) to AISD cooperating teachers.


2. Conduct a one-day seminar that will focus on the following components:

  1. •Academic English/Spanish

  2. •AISD Instructional Planning Guides (IPGs) and guiding questions

  3. •The use of technology tools to enhance science instruction within the 5E’s framework

  4. •The use of Inspiration/Kidspiration and iPhoto to promote academic English/Spanish

  5. •Cooperating teacher use of laptop as an instructional and productivity tool beyond training/projects


3. Support UT pre-service and AISD cooperating bilingual teachers during the classroom implementation of the instructional tools and strategies presented during the VIDA seminar.
